Variability, Seasonality, and Persistence of Fecal Coliform Bacteria in Chester Creek Anchorage Alaska

Bill Schnabel
Institute of Northern Engineering, University of Alaska, Fairbanks

This presentation describes the results of a study conducted in 2004-2006 investigating the origins and fate of fecal coliform bacteria in Chester Creek. The results indicated that while there was a seasonal component to the peak loading events, the creek was impacted year round by low-level chronic loading processes. The study results will be discussed in the context of mitigation measures, regulatory compliance, and cold-region watershed management.
